It’s rare that anyone runs as a liberal these days. If you watch the political ads from just about anywhere in the nation, it’s clear that no one ever wants to run for office as liberal.

In years past, it was the surest way to destroy your political opponent.

Since time immemorial, the GOP has always played the defense card or the taxes card as a trump card in the kabuki dance of political theater; just as much as the Democrats play the Medicare and Social Security ‘grandma off the cliff’ ads. The general public has no interest in electing someone that is sure to raise their taxes, be weak with our enemies and generally make a hash of things.

To be sure, there are people that believe in liberalism. Certainly many of our leaders do, at least once they get in office. But say they are a liberal while they are running? Not a chance.

In leftist political ads you have to watch them carefully to catch the lingo. They say things like, ‘I’m going to improve our school system’, which generally means ‘I’m going to pay off teachers unions’ – and consequently higher taxes. But they never EVER say, “I’m a liberal and I’m proud of it”. At best they say “I’m a moderate”, or “I’m socially liberal, but fiscally conservative” which is a catch phrase these days for “I’m going to spend your tax money on a lot of entitlements but I have no clue as to how to pay for them”.

Liberals like Jane Fonda don’t exist anymore– or do they?

This year it’s far worse than in years past because the hostility and rancor against debt and entitlements has reached an all-time high, even more so since the 2010 elections. During that election, even old softie liberal Barbara Boxer was running on her website how she was ‘pro-small business’ and ‘pro-jobs’. This is coming from a Senator, as head of the Environment and Public Works committee, has passed more small business regulations than Nikita Khrushchev.  Naturally now that she got re-elected, her website has changed juuuuuuuuust a bit. It focuses on clean energy, the train to nowhere and more regulations like rental car safety. Rental car safety? How could they possibly be any more unsafe than the everyday Joe driving around in a jalopy that has years of deferred maintenance because the economy is so bad from all the regulations and taxes?

Looking at some of the ads the Democrats are running this year you would think they were Republicans. Look at Dr. Richard Carmona’s website, a Democrat who ran for Senate out of Tucson. This liberal doesn’t even MENTION he is a Democrat on his website. Democrat? What’s that? President who?  He talks about ‘cleaning up Washington’ and touts how he supported by’ policemen and firemen’, while officially registering as an Independent. Read the fine print—its police and fire UNIONS, a whole different matter. He even slanders his own side with a posting about how BOTH parties have failed the American dream.  I wonder how is going to do that with union support, considering we are drowning in debt from paying back pensions. The day a Democrat cuts pension monies to the union is the day the world stops revolving. There’s nothing ‘Independent’ about a candidate that accepts government union support, or is a lifelong supporter of more tobacco and cigarette regulation—he even supports banning them outright.

Or how about Democrat Tom Carper from Delaware? Again no mention he is a Democrat on his website—and this is in the solid blue state of Delaware, Biden’s home ground.  Again, lots of postings about jobs and the economy, lots of blame on the House, lots of pictures of veterans and flag waving are all over the website.  Naturally, he isn’t going to talk about all the leftist stuff he is doing behind the scenes, like co-authoring the bill to limit internet freedoms and turning control of it over to the White House.  Clearly, he isn’t too proud of that legacy or a link with Biden.

Go to a GOP site, they proudly talk about all the bills they are sponsoring, or the things they are doing. Go to a Democrat site, they talk about all the things they should be doing but aren’t.

The reason for this is really simple actually. Democrats know most people don’t agree with their agenda, don’t want leftist politics, nor left wing sympathizers and know the left game plan doesn’t work well at all.

This leaves us with an obvious question. If no one wants left wing ideas, and everyone knows they don’t work, why do we keep getting stuck with leaders that promote that policy once elected?

Think about it a moment and answer it yourself and you’ve rung the bell on the carnival game of power politics, and understand what is really going on in this country. Think about it the next time you are planning to pull a lever for a Democrat.
