The war on terror is lost, but government is afraid to tell us.

If there is one sure thing you can bet on, is that when the United States wants to lose a war, they will declare it openly.

Every war we have openly declared, we have lost miserably in the last 50 years.

Clearly, the United States is losing the war on terror, just like it is losing the war on drugs, and lost the war on poverty. We have retreated from any sort of diplomatic solution in the Mideast. Islamic fundamentalism is sweeping through the streets of just about every Muslim city while we pack our bags for home from our embassies.

The reasons for this are various, but there is no doubt that we haven’t been fighting this war for some time. Like the war on drugs we have declared it unwinnable, despite never having really tried to win it. When this country declares war on something these days, you can get even odds on whether we will actually fight it.

Take the war on drugs. Despite billions being poured into on a yearly basis, we never really have addressed problem of drug abuse in society. We lock up petty traffickers and casual users for half their life and ruin lives in the process, but leave our borders open to massive shipments of illegal drugs. Drug lords and local kingpins do business openly, but it’s the schmuck in the street who is arrested and does time. We jail the victim in our code of justice, but not the perpetrator. Drugs are cheap and widespread mainly because we go after the dealer, instead of the supply.

Look at the war on poverty, which failed miserably but everyone is afraid to admit the truth—that Johnson’s Great Society and FDR’s big government is the greatest failed social experiment in human history. Not a single program has ever solved the problem that it was created to correct. In fact, these programs have gotten bigger and more elaborate, while the problems of poverty have become manifest. One of the fattest nations in the world has ½ of its working population on the dole, in one form or another. Now we plan to fix our ‘broken’ health care system. If previous results are any indication, we should plan on widespread sickness in the near future.

Finally, examine the war on terrorism as it stands now. We retreat from the Middle East while troops are still in the field and our enemy cheers in the street. In places around the country, Islamics build ‘forts’ that house up to 10,000 potential Islamic extremists a few miles from our nation’s capital while we hold hands and wax poetic about the dangers of ‘Islamaphobia’. Homeland security reports that up to a million people are unaccounted for in our own visa system, and no one is concerned of the ramifications of this. Despite strong evidence that the Boston terrorists were radicalized within the United States, we refuse to do the prudent thing and investigate Islamic extremism. Every modern terrorist attack on US persons has been from young, radicalized Islamic extremists, yet we continue to search nuns, the wheelchair bound and soldiers in uniform at the airport.

Common sense has taken a giant leap backward from its already mammoth proportioned nadir. We lick our Cheetos stained fingers while hooting at the latest antics of Honey Boo Boo instead of questioning the role and expense of our government. We watch the government propaganda laced TV news and ignore more salient columns and books.

If this country was a horse with a broken leg, a veterinarian would recommend putting it down.

Perhaps we should declare a war on big government. Then we might have something huh?
