Numbers games are being played in Washington these days, and the American people are the ones being played as fools.
The Federal Government, a.k.a Team Obama, has now proven itself completely unreliable to report economic news with any semblance of reliability. They have decided that since their policies don’t work and can’t get the economy moving in a robust direction forward, well, they are just going to lie about it.
The first step was taken years ago when they began to fudge the unemployment numbers, adjusting them upward AFTER the official reporting date. It proved to be so effective that now ANY numbers reported are often ‘adjusted’ at a later date—and conveniently forgotten about in the due course of time.
To make matters worse, they are now just going to alter the measuring stick instead of lowering the water. The national GDP numbers now reflect growth from sectors that aren’t really economic growth—like research and development which used to be in the debt column. Other things like intellectual property rights and technological development have been shifted as a result. Those numbers were ‘adjusted’ very quietly last week and were rolled back in five years of figures. Five years, because that’s when Obama took office.
We have no idea what the real numbers are, but as long as the mass media reports them, who cares whether they are real or not, since the majority of Americans have no clue as to what they mean or the significance of them. Better educated heads know better—the economy is going sideways and all the reports (even if they are addled by politics) don’t paint a rosy picture.
Take for example the unemployment picture. While Team Obama trumpets a 7.6% unemployment rate (which is horrific if you think about it), they neglect to mention that unemployment is up in 90% of American cities. While bankrupt Detroit is struggling with an almost 11% unemployment picture, the city of Yuma is a shocking 31%. Yuma’s main industry and skill set? Migrant farm work. If companies need farm workers as bad as they claim, and need amnesty for illegal aliens, why don’t they pick up a phone and call Yuma—I’m sure the city elders would like to have a conversation.
Let’s look at university cities, where states are touting the benefits of expanding higher education and the amateur in the White House is claiming education creates jobs. 6 of the top 10 cities in unemployment are university towns, as we produce rows of engineers and business grads with nothing to engineer and no businesses to manage.
In short, the mantra coming out of Washington that education and amnesty will help solve our jobs problem is not only not working, its making matter worse.
How long this can go on is anyone’s guess but with 17 trillion in debt it’s only a matter of time before the whole kit and caboodle goes pop. The top employer states? Oklahoma, Texas and the Dakotas- states that rejected Team Obama’s notion of growth and went with the time tested plan of low consumer taxes and traditional industry deregulation. Take those states out of the mix and even the fudged numbers look catastrophic.
Not that anyone is talking about this in the mass media. The lead stories on NBC, ABC and CBS news are giant babies, the Kardashian’s latest antics and Zimmerman getting pulled over by a cop in Texas. As for the major White House scandals, Team Obama never even HEARD of Benghazi.
Well, I suppose that’s fair. After all, 40 million of us are just sitting at home with nothing to do.
