THE ATHLETIC- Hammer thrower Gwen Berry turned away from the American flag during the playing of the national anthem at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Saturday in Eugene, Ore.

Berry, who placed third in the hammer throw Saturday to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, has been a vocal activist in the lead-up to the trials. The anthem has been playing once a day at the trials, and Berry said she felt like the timing of the anthem Saturday was a “set-up.”

“I was pissed, to be honest,” Berry told reporters at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
